Daimaru Matsuzakaya ECOFF Campaign promotes clothing reuse and recycling

Daimaru Matsuzakaya Department Stores will launch its Spring 2026 ECOFF Campaign across 10 locations nationwide starting 3 March. This campaign is part of the company’s “Think GREEN” sustainability project, and invites customers to bring unwanted clothing, shoes, and bags to designated in-store collection points.

The programme has grown significantly since its inception in 2016. As of January 2026, the campaign has collected over 8.48 million items, totalling approximately 2,464 tonnes of material. In the previous Autumn 2025 campaign, participants contributed 518,309 items, weighing nearly 138 tonnes. To further encourage participation, the department store provides a 500-yen digital coupon for every item donated, which customers can use via the Daimaru Matsuzakaya mobile app for purchases.

Daimaru Matsuzakaya ensures the circularity of collected goods through a partnership with JEPLAN, INC. and other specialised firms. The partnership establishes a traceability system for collected items. Wearable clothing and accessories are exported for reuse in second-hand shops in Thailand and Cambodia. Items that are no longer fit for wear are processed into recycled fibres, such as insulation or new textile materials. This dual approach extends product lifecycles.

The campaign will take place at major branches including Daimaru Tokyo, Daimaru Umeda and Matsuzakaya Nagoya.
