Come join the Meguru Hoshiten English Cafe for an eco-summer time!

The Meguru Hoshiten English Cafe, an English learning community based in the Hoshikawa and Tennocho areas of Hodogaya Ward, is hosting a special event designed to help participants practice English in a relaxed, engaging environment. This casual, cafe-style learning group, which started in October 2023, welcomes individuals of all ages, genders, occupations, and skill levels.

On July 20, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., participants are invited to the “qlaytion gallery,” where the Yokohama Circular Design Museum is located, to take part in an immersive experience where they will make lanterns from recycled aluminum cans. The event, held in English, aims to promote environmental consciousness while providing a platform for practical language use.

The Meguru Hoshiten English Cafe emphasizes speaking practice, offering a unique opportunity for both beginners and experienced speakers to engage in meaningful conversations. In addition to crafting lanterns, participants will learn and practice vocabulary and expressions related to the activity, fostering a deeper understanding and comfort with everyday English conversation.

This event is part of the community’s broader effort to create mental space for individuals and promote a happier, more balanced lifestyle through language learning and cultural exchange. It aims to bring together people from various backgrounds to share in the value of “spacing out” and enjoying unstructured time.

The event is open to all, including children, though those under 12 must be accompanied by a guardian. The participation fee is ¥1,000 per person, which includes a drink and a candle for the lantern. Interested individuals are encouraged to bring an empty 350ml aluminum can.
