Discovering a Sustainable Future from Japan

BIKAS COFFEE’s 3rd crowdfunding to plant your own coffee tree!

In the quaint Harpan village of Nepal, BIKAS COFFEE is reimagining the world of coffee cultivation and consumption with a unique and heartfelt project. Drawing on the village’s innovative approach to sustainable and regenerative coffee production, BIKAS COFFEE aims to nurture a sense of connection between coffee growers and consumers, as well as tackle environmental challenges.

Today, BIKAS COFFEE is inviting us to join them to plant coffee trees with them in Harpan’s coffee plantation with this third crowdfunding campaign of BIKAS COFFEE VILLAGE! With the past two crowdfunding projects achieving over 300% funding, this round’s campaign is poised for success too.

By joining BIKAS COFFEE VILLAGE, you’ll get to personalize your planted coffee trees by naming them after yourself or sending a message to your future self in three years. After three years, receive 500g of coffee beans per tree you plant, along with quarterly reports on the growth of Nepalese coffee plantations. They will carefully cultivate your trees until they bear fruit, providing information on the farm and insights from coffee farmers. It is also an opportunity to become part of an online community united by common values, with tree planters of diverse backgrounds.

Coffee, cherished by billions worldwide, faces a significant threat from global warming. As temperatures rise, coffee rust, a fungus that damages crops and reduces quality, thrives. Consequently, by 2050, arabica cultivation areas could shrink by 50%. Harpan village is striving to address this issue through sustainable coffee production and consumption practices, designed to preserve the environment and benefit farmers.

Here, coffee trees are cultivated using agroforestry, or companion planting, and are grown in forests or under the shade of trees. This method preserves the natural environment while promoting crop growth. Furthermore, Harpan farmers use organic fertilizers, avoiding chemical alternatives that harm the environment.

To support this concept, BIKAS COFFEE initiated a tree planting project in 2021. With overwhelming response and support, the project has successfully achieved crowdfunding goals and planted 258 coffee trees so far. These trees are named after their supporters, fostering a sense of purpose and motivation for coffee growers.

To enhance this connection between supporters and farmers, BIKAS COFFEE is establishing “BIKAS COFFEE VILLAGE Harpan (BCV Harpan).” BCV Harpan aims to improve the quality of coffee and the prosperity of Harpan village.

To assist BCV Harpan farmers, BIKAS COFFEE will provide necessary agricultural tools and support to address cultivation issues. Furthermore, for every 100% crowdfunding achieved, shade trees such as fruit and vegetable trees will be planted on BCV Harpan farmers’ land.

BIKAS COFFEE’s GLOBALACTION initiative promotes self-initiated development for farmers, consumers, and communities. With stores in Tokyo and Pokhara, Nepal, BIKAS COFFEE seeks to create economic and social value by realizing personal values. As the project gains traction, coffee beans from Harpan reach more individuals, making a tangible difference.

With a focus on sustainability, regeneration, and community, BIKAS COFFEE is pioneering a new way of thinking about coffee production and consumption. Through innovative practices, the project aims to protect the environment, stabilize farmer income, and cultivate a deeper connection between coffee growers and consumers. It is a shining example of how personal growth and development can lead to the advancement of communities and society as a whole.
