Gateway to Sustainability in Japan

Patagonia to conduct Climate Activism School for Japanese youths

Popular American outdoor clothing and gear maker Patagonia Inc., for the silent sports including climbing, surfing, skiing, snowboarding, has long been known for its leadership in taking action to reduce environmental impact. With a mission statement to “build the best product, cause no unnecessary harm, use business to inspire and implement solutions to the environmental crisis” – Patagonia continues to take care of the Earth.

The company’s Japanese branch will soon conduct a “Climate Activism School” on December 26th and 27th, 2020, for 100 young people nationwide aged 15 to 24 who are concerned about the environment and want to do something about it. The event will be online, and it will provide participants with the opportunity to face the climate crisis, ask questions about it, and discover ways to take action together. Participating fee is free, and in March 2021, the company will organize fieldwork for those who participated in the event.

Here’s a message from Patagonia calling for young people to attend their “Climate Activism School”:

“What kind of world have you lived in since you were born? While they say we live in a world in which we can live to be 100-years-old, it seems we are now facing a global crisis. Scientists warn us that whether we can continue living on our only home, Earth, depends on the actions that we humans take over the next decade. What say you?

“….Rather than heading toward an image of a future that we adults envisioned, imagine a future in which you can make the Earth a comfortable environment to live in. A place where you can cherish each and every important thing and person that you care about. Imagine a society that creates new values, and reconnects the environment and the people that have come to be so divided.”
