Two day sustainable event at Grandberry Park combines reuse and recycling

The sixth edition of GREEN Good MARKET 2026 will be held next week on 7 and 8 November. The outdoor sustainability event will take place at Grandberry Park in Tokyo. Over the two days, 19 commercial tenants from the complex will sell sustainable clothing, everyday household goods and books in an open-air market format. Sellers include Urban Research Warehouse, which will sell factory-second garments and items collected through its clothing reuse initiative, and vintage apparel retailer Grapefruit Moon.

Organisers are pairing the market with resource recovery schemes incentivised through biodegradable tokens called G Coins. Visitors who deposit unwanted clothing for recycling through textile recovery initiative BRING receive tokens (or complete a parkwide stamp rally, which is capped at 1,000 participants per day). Produced from bioplastic using starch extracted from discarded potato peels, the tokens decompose naturally in soil when exposed to air, rain, sunlight and bacteria. Collecting five tokens allows visitors to redeem a 500 yen voucher for shopping and dining across the commercial complex.

Sponsored exhibits will showcase circular economy technologies and material recycling methods. Tokyu Railways will present a research and development initiative aiming to produce recycled cables for rail infrastructure. It separates copper from insulation sheathing in decommissioned railway cables using a wet peeling process combining solvent swelling and mechanical impact. The railway operator will also feature displays on forest timber cycles and distribute bandanas upcycled from former employee work uniforms to the first 100 participating children daily. A separate cosmetics collection booth will allow up to 42 participants each day to turn discarded makeup into paint pigments for badge making.

Regional environmental programmes include a stone cleanup and painting workshop at Tsuruma Park with local football club FC Machida Zelvia, alongside a transparent refuse collection vehicle display run with Machida City. The event will also feature workshops and ticket sales for GREEN×EXPO 2027, an international horticultural exhibition taking place in Yokohama in 2027. GREEN Good MARKET 2026 will run from 10:00 to 16:00 on both days across the outdoor plazas of Grandberry Park and Tsuruma Park, with operations cancelled in the event of severe weather.

Approximately 170,000 visitors attended the previous GREEN Good MARKET.
