Kaman Inc earns B Corp status for Megloo reuse container service

Kaman Inc., the Kamakura-based operator of the reuse container sharing service Megloo, has officially obtained B Corp certification on 30 May. The announcement coincided with Japan’s Zero Waste Day, which syncs with the company’s efforts in creating a circular society. Megloo is a platform that provides reusable takeaway containers, aiming to eliminate single-use waste at large-scale events and within local communities.

The company achieved a total score of 92 points in the B Impact Assessment, significantly exceeding the 80-point threshold required for certification. The assessment evaluated Kaman across five categories: governance, workers, community, environment, and customers. The highest score was recorded in the environment category, where the company earned 33.8 points, reflecting Megloo effectiveness in reducing takeaway container waste and lowering environmental loads across the supply chain.

Megloo has established a strong track record, supporting over 100 events annually, including J.League matches, music festivals, and local celebrations. It enables organisers and food vendors to reduce their reliance on plastic and paper disposables. The service currently operates in 20 cities across Japan.

Shingo Yoshizumi, CEO of Kaman Inc., stated that the certification process served as a management guide. He noted that the rigorous assessment prompted the company to move beyond a simple execution-focused approach toward a structured cycle of planning, action, and public disclosure. Yoshizumi emphasised that making these processes transparent is essential for creating momentum towards a circular economy.

Looking ahead, Kaman intends to shift its focus from one-off event usage to continuous, daily reuse within regional communities. The company aims to maximise the frequency of container reuse to achieve greater reductions in waste and carbon dioxide emissions.
