Fuji Kogyo Co., Ltd. has won the Grand Prize at the 7th Disaster Prevention Goods Awards 2025 for its portable flood barrier, the Flood Guard F.
The awards, established in 2019 by the Disaster Prevention Research Institute, aim to promote high-quality disaster preparedness products. The award recognised the Flood Guard F for being lightweight yet high-performing, quick to install and remove, and cost-effective due to its reusability. Its design is particularly suited to tackling urban inland flooding, where it performs best on smooth surfaces like concrete and asphalt.

Fuji Kogyo positions the product as a contributor to the Sustainable Development Goals, specifically Goal 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) and Goal 13 (Climate Action), aiming to enhance urban resilience. With over 110,000 units already deployed, the company is actively expanding its reach and has been recruiting new distributors nationwide since 2024.
Beyond its primary function, the barrier has found novel applications in environmental conservation. In Hakuba, Nagano Prefecture, it is used to adjust river flow and aid fish migration, contributing to resource recovery. The product also gained international attention in April 2025 during a demonstration for responding to electric vehicle fires in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, where it was praised by local fire officials for its ease of use and effectiveness.
“We are greatly honoured that our Flood Guard has received this award and attracted so much attention,” said Kengo Fujii, Representative Director of Fuji Kogyo. “We will continue to improve the Flood Guard to contribute to disaster preparedness for municipalities, companies, and individuals across the country.”
