16 UNIQLO stores offer free clothing repairs to celebrate Earth Day

UNIQLO is celebrating Earth Day by launching a week-long campaign through its RE.UNIQLO STUDIO programme. Starting today, UNIQLO will be offering complimentary and discounted clothing repairs at 16 locations across Japan, encouraging customers to extend the life of their garments.

Launched in 2022, RE.UNIQLO STUDIO is a service dedicated to repairing and remaking UNIQLO clothing. In-store specialists carry out careful mending of holes and frays, with costs starting as low as 500 yen. Customers can also opt for personalisation services, such as original embroidery from 700 yen or traditional Japanese sashiko stitching from 1,000 yen (note: only available at selected locations.)

To take part in their Earth Day campaign, customers are asked to complete a brief survey about repair practices and circular economy efforts. In return, they receive a free repair for UNIQLO items priced under 1,000 yen or a 500-yen discount for repairs exceeding that amount. The offer is limited to repairs only, excluding embroidery and sashiko services. Eligibility requires that items be verifiable UNIQLO products, but also note that collaboration items are excluded from the remake services.

The idea for RE.UNIQLO STUDIO emerged from a collaborative upcycling workshop in a German UNIQLO store. It was first officially introduced at the Regent Street location in London in 2022. As of April 2025, the initiative has grown to 58 stores across 22 countries and regions. In Japan, the programme began with a trial at the Setagaya Chitosedai store and now operates in 16 locations nationwide.
